Chas - Support of the Poor & Vagrancy Laws

1758 Law -

Poor House was run by St. Phillips Church

Expenses were paid out of the public treasury

1758 Law

Vagrants - i.e., "all idle, lewd, disorderly men, who have no vagrttnt8' habitations or settled place of abode, or no visible way or means of main taining themselves, all sturdy beggars, and all strolling or straggling per sons, shall be, and they are hereby deemed and declared to be, vagrants"

A person deemed a Vagrants was to be impressed into service for a three year term in recently authorized 700 man "South Carolina regiment" prepared to deploy in the colony wherever need be.
